Adventure Day 01/26/14

And now back to our regularly scheduled programming….The Adventure Bowl

I read this week’s fate-driven activity and saw the boy’s eyes flicker in excitement.  He let me know that this was one of the adventures he had been secretly hoping for.
Adventure #77: A motorcycle ride up the Pacific Coast Highway.

We suit up, grab some petrol at the local 76 and start off on our journey…

The boy’s one contention with us being on the bike, is that he absolutely will not go on the highways.  Having me on board is equivalent with having a “baby on board” and he just can’t drive in the way he is accustomed.  So our journey took us from Beachwood Canyon up by the Hollywood Bowl, by way of Mulholland Drive

…where we stopped at a tour bus look-over point that gives you a good view of the city and the bowl.

We continued traveling Mulholland Drive, until we took a south on Sepulveda and headed to Brentwood.

Two hungry giraffes stopped off at the Whole Foods there to order baby back ribs, mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese.
At this point we’d been on the bike for about an hour and a half.

I actually thought that we were close enough to the PCH that the boy might just call off continuing the drive and head us back to Beachwood Canyon comfort … I was wrong.

The boy had a dedication to getting us to the PCH.  So I took a small video of us reaching the ocean.
And I thought to myself…NOW, now he will head back home.  We made it to the PCH, there’s the beach, by the time we get home the sun will be setting.

Once again, I was wrong.  A half hour further and we are stopped and pulling over to the Malibu Pier.

We took a walk down the pier.  I made a passing remark that my bum was starting to hurt.  I suggest that maybe this is the end of our ride.  If my butt hurts now, it is another hour home, at least, so lets just get the return home started.  The sun is starting to dip.  We hop back on the bike…and once again, we do not head home.

Ends up that the boy has a landmark that he wants to pass, making this trip the farthest he has gone up the PCH.  So an hour further, passing Zuma, passing Pointe Dume, passing Ventura and passing Leo Carrillo Beach….we pull over to watch the sunset.

The sun is setting on one side of us…a rainbow has emerged on the other side of us.
And it is GLORIOUS!

What is also glorious….is the amount of pain my derriere is in.  I can hardly sit still.  I don’t ride on the motorcycle too often.  And after 2-3 hours, I am just dying.  I am seriously contemplating hiring a driver to pick me up and drive me home, while the boy rides the bike home.

There *might* have been a prima donna moment from me, while staring at nature’s grandeur.

Eventually, I sucked it up and hopped back on for the ride home.
We took a few breaks, but we made it back in one piece.

The boy apologized to me for not turning around sooner…..more importantly, he apologized to my lady lumps.
And they have almost forgiven him.
